International Bioenergy Days At MSU

Some new technology is on the MSU campus bringing in manufacturers from around the globe.  The conference promotes renewable energy, and if deals are made, you could see a drop in your heating bill down the road.

MSU Mankato is one of three schools in the United States that will host conferences on renewable energy this year.  International and local companies are hoping to bring in buyers that would like to purchase the technologies for more mainstream use in the U.S. starting in Minnesota.

2008 IBED Conference Chairman Bob Ryan says, "What these products will allow us to do is to look at industrial heat. Residential fuel. Fuels that will not be fossil fuel based for schools, courthouses, hospitals."

Those that take in the conference over the next four days will not only see how biofuels are good for the environment, but that they are more affordable, lowering fuel costs for residential and commercial properties.

AbioNova General Manager Per Carlsson says, "Domestic fuels that you already have, I mean corn, you have wood pellets instead of gas because it's half the price of heating and still you are good to the environment."

More than 60 organizations are in the exhibit hall, touting alternative energy from near and far.  It's under the tent that the real magic is going on as technology that is more 30 years ahead is on display.

Rolf Birketvedt says, "I think it's a good opportunity to see how the system works and operate, and see that they can provide hot air for the house or hot water for their boilers."

That according to officials will help turn people toward renewable energy systems.
